The Vihuela was a verry common instrument in Spain in the 16th century. Many music was written for this instrument.
Unfortunately there are not so much instruments that survived an can be taken as model to be a pattern for a copy.
In my Eyes there is only one instrument which give an idea to us instrument makers, how a vihuela looked like and
may be build. This is the so called
Unusual is this instrument. It is very big. The string length could not be reconstructed exactly. This is weather 76 cm or 80 cm. The back, sides and even the neck is composed by a lot of pieces of wood. But anyway, the condition is not so bad. There are inlays similar to the bermudo drawings and it has fife roses.

I made some rebuildings / reconstruction of a vihuela. All are based on this instrument, but I reduced the sizes.
